Hundreds of Career Opportunities in One Day for South LA

Last week hundreds of young adults dressed to impress with their best business attire and résumés arrived early and anxiously waited to enter the first 100,000 Opportunities Initiative Hiring Fair held in South Los Angeles. LeadersUp had the distinct honor of organizing and hosting this impactful event made possible by the Aspen Institute Forum for Community Solutions and with the generous participation of 100,000 Opportunities Initiatives (100K) employer partners. In the course of 6 hours 100K employer partners held more than 500 job interviews and extended more than 200 offers on-the-spot.

In the United States today, many companies are in a “talent war,” struggling to find skilled workers to fill entry- to advance-level positions. At the same time 5.8 million young people between the ages of 16 and 24 are not in school and not working—a population the size of Maryland or Wisconsin (and larger than 30 other states).
