5 Things You Need to Know to Make Your Resume Last Longer Than 6 Seconds

LeadersUp Jun 12, 2020

Studies show that recruiters spend an average of 6 seconds reviewing a resume. So here’s how to make a recruiter fall in love with your resume in 6 seconds

1. Keep your resume to 1 page.

Recruiters review hundreds of resumes per day and are likely to skip the second or third page.

2. Don’t get fancy.

Minimize colors and graphics on your resume and have clear categories for each section.

3. Tailor your resume to the company or role you’re applying for.

Do what you feel most comfortable with. Research what documents you need so you can have that at hand when you begin your application process.

4. Ditch the photo.

Remember that recruiters only have 6 seconds, so you don’t want to distract them with any images.

5. Use actions verbs and quantitative data to describe your work experience.

For example:

“Served an average of 150 customers per dinner-time shift”
